Norfolk Virginia-Pilot vs. Michelle Malkin

Concerning the decision of the Norfolk Virginia-Pilot to cancel Michelle Malkin's column -- the facts behind the fiasco are clear: The newspaper cancelled her column because of her conservative ideas. Public editor Marvin Lake stated that the paper cancelled her because she is "too stridently anti-liberal." Editorial writer Bronwyn Lance Chester called her an "Asian Ann Coulter."

David Limbaugh calls this comment racist. Amy Ridenour asks, "shouldn't the Virginian-Pilot refer to the original Ann Coulter as "the White Ann Coulter?" The Blogs of War notes the many anti-Malkin hate filled posts on the Democratic Underground blog.

I took a look at that blog. Many of the posts are simply racist and hateful. Many of the posts have, in fact, been removed. Those posts which remain on that site leave me wondering what the original posts said, now marked: "message removed by moderator." Overall, of all of those commenting on the newspaper's decision, Michelle is the most charitable, calling the newspaper "stridently sanctimonious."

Being familiar with areas of the country (and, times) where white-against-black racism abounded, none of this is very shocking. Had a transplant from the year 2004 gone back in time and cornered some of these people from the past, calling them "racist!", they would have shrugged: "so what?" If what I read from our Democratic "friends" is any guide, there is a lot of shrugging going on right now over Michelle.

Several days ago, I posted about liberals making racist comments about Condi Rice, and I received a comment from an obviously informed liberal reader, who wrote:

It was liberals who freed the blacks. [ huh?] If conservatives had their way, there would still be black-only schools, black-only bathrooms, blacks would have to sit at the back of the bus.

It is nonsense to think that conservatives are more fair to minorities.

I think it's nonsense to deny where the real racism is, in the year 2004. More and more, it will be seen.
